Masters of chaos, exhibition

From Wednesday, April 11 2012 to Sunday, July 29 2012

Lords of misrule.

Most cultures depict opposing forces that compete for the world in a necessary struggle without end. Theogonies, myths and festivals organise the understanding and continuation of the struggle of these great cosmic principles.

The exhibition at the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris places the spotlight on the figureheads of disorder such as gods and spirits like Dionysus, Seth Typhon, the Pale Fox, Exu and so on.

The exhibition presents the characteristics of these spirits' allies (intercessors), the persistent attempts at conjuration, or use of such forces in our secular societies.

Signed by Dalì, exhibition

From Friday, February 10 2012 to Thursday, May 10 2012

Good friends.

This exhibition presents a collection of works donated and dedicated by Salvador Dali to his friend and secretary, Enrique Sabater. Sixty works, including oils, watercolours, sketches, drawings and photographs, bear witness to the friendship between the two men.
Enrique Sabater met Dali in 1968, during an interview. The two men got on famously and spend a great deal of time together, until Sabater became the artist's secretary as well as one of his best friends. Dali also taught Enrique Sabater everything he knew.
This exhibition presents the link between these two men and also allows us to gain a better understanding of the great artist.

Mayan Jade Masks, exhibition

From Thursday, January 26 2012 to Sunday, June 10 2012

Exploring Mayan culture.

History enthusiasts as well as art lovers will be entranced by this exhibition which presents a collection of exceptional masks, restored by the leading experts in Mayan archaeology.

These masks represent the faces of divinity and their mission was to provide eternal life to dignitaries after death. Surrounding these masks, a hundred works from Mexico are also on display, allowing you to immerse yourself in the cosmogony of this fascinating civilization.

Thus you will learn about Mayan sculpture, a little known field. You will also discover that the Maya had a fascination with the colour green, which is why they chose jade as the material for the rarest and most precious items.

This fascinating exhibition features works combining political prestige and the manifestation of the sacred: this is a spectacular discovery of an aspect of Mayan culture which remains little known.
